A lot has changed since AIIM International (The Association for Information and Image Management) was founded in 1943 as the National Microfilm Association. But one thing has remained remarkably consistent. Despite countless revolutions in technologies, the focus has remained the same -- helping users apply document and content technologies to improve their internal processes.

AIIM International is the industrys leading global organization. We believe that at the center of an effective business infrastructure in the digital age is the ability to capture, manage, store, preserve and deliver enterprise content to support business processes. The requisite technologies to establish this infrastructure are an extension of AIIM's core document and content technologies. These Enterprise Content Management (ECM) technologies are key enablers of e-Business and include: Content/Document Management, Business Process Management, Enterprise Portals, Knowledge Management, Image Management, Data Warehousing, and Data Mining. Our focus over the next 3-5 years will be helping our members - both users and suppliers make this e-Business transition.

Dmitry Starostenkov Ph. D., is President of Enterra Inc., a Russian software development outsourcing company specializing in delivery of information and content management. He will share his experience and knowledge on the impact of globalization on contemporary information delivery systems. His first hand experience includes systems for many small organizations through some of the world giants, like Daimler Chrysler, Siemens and CoMed, the largest medical information publisher in Europe.

Pressures for the elimination of paper and computer delivery systems are increasing and simultaneously paralleling the economic forces for outsourcing non-core competencies. The convergence of these forces creates opportunities for smaller companies to realize the benefits that historically were only available to companies like UPS, Microsoft and IBM. System efficiencies for storage, access and delivery are improving and the promise of computer generated efficiencies are now available across all levels of business.

From the simple reduction of filing cabinets to the wholesale elimination of paper, information capture, content and information management is amaking it possible for small businesses to compete with large businesses. Information and labor costs are equalizing for all businesses regardless of size. Globalized information access and globalized labor access is leveling the playing field and changing the pricing paradigms for service delivery. Mr. Starostenkov will discuss these global forces and the channels available for local companies.
